LODD
On Saturday April 26, 2003 Firefighter/Paramedic Bruce Spaulding was killed while on duty for the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District. This was the first LODD for the district. Bruce's death was considered LODD by the State of Illinois. The federal government did not conclude his death as LODD until 2008. In October of 2009 Bruce's death was recognized during the Fallen Firefighter's Memorial weekend at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland.
Chief Ed St. Louis accompanied Bruce's Mother and Step-Father Jane and Gale Lehnus, widow Denise Spaulding, and step-children Andrew and Krista Campbell to Maryland for the memorial services.
